Tom Petty’s manager Tony Dimitriades has confirmed that the musician has passed away, just weeks before his 67th birthday, after suffering cardiac arrest.
A post on the singer’s Facebook page announced, “On behalf of the Tom Petty family we are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty.
He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived.
He died peacefully at 8:40pm PST surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends.

Following the announcement of his death, Live Nation released the following statement, “We are deeply saddened to learn of Tom Petty’s passing. He was a titan of rock and roll, an extraordinary songwriter and performer and an American legend. It was an honor to work with him over the years and particularly on his recent 40th anniversary tour. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all fans of this gifted artist.”
