Officials say on Friday morning 44 pounds of methamphetamine was seized during a traffic stop in Indio, after CHP officers pulled over a man reportedly driving at speeds over 100 mph on the 10 Freeway.
According to the Press Enterprise a news release stated that around 1 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers saw a 2016 Toyota Camry traveling at an excessive rate of speed on the eastbound side of the 10 freeway near Indian Canyon Drive and pulled the car over.
The driver was identified by officers as 62-year-old Sergio Peregrina of Bell Gardens. According to CHP officials, Peregrina was driving on a suspended license and that led them to impound the car.
Officials say that it wasn’t until the vehicle inventory that the gigantic amount of meth worth about $600,000 was discovered by officers, along with a stolen, loaded handgun.
Peregrina was booked in Indio at the Riverside County Jail, after being arrested on multiple charges including, suspicion of transportation of drugs, possession of a stolen handgun and driving with a suspended license.
