According to authorities a motorcyclist, who was involved in a police pursuit Thursday afternoon, blew a stop sign and crashed into a car in Fontana injuring several people, including himself.
The impact happened at the intersection of Miller and Mango.
CBS Los Angeles reports that according to police, the chase lasted for about a mile. Police were attempting to get the motorcyclist to pull over after they reportedly saw him doing several stunts on city streets.
The police didn’t want anyone to get hurt and were hoping he would pull over and stop the pursuit.
Fontana Police Sgt. Kevin Goltara said, “He could have pulled over, probably the most that would have happened would have at this point been a traffic ticket.”
Instead, the motorcyclist crashed into someone after running a stop sign and was later taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
The man was reportedly a recruit with the Exile Ryders group in the Inland Empire. They’re a group of riders who perform wheelies and other stunts on public roads.
This is the second accident in the Inland Empire in about a week that involves a motorcycle group. This past weekend, someone who was a member of the Ruthless Ryders died when he attempted to stand on his bike seat and wound up falling on the 15 Freeway.
The other two victims of the crash are expected to survive. The motorcyclist’s condition has been upgraded to stable.
