Authorities say that a homemade Fourth of July firework could have been what seriously hurt three young boys in San Bernardino, Tuesday.

Around 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 4, San Bernardino police and San Bernardino County Fire Department paramedics were dispatched to what police said was a “fireworks incident,” on the 2300 block of Cedar Street.

The San Bernardino Sun reports the three boys were between the ages of 8 and 10 years of age.

According to Eric Sherwin, spokesman for the San Bernardino County Fire Department, two of the boys had run off before paramedics arrived. They were reportedly taken to different hospitals by family members.

Spokesman Sherwin said the 10-year-old boy who was found at the scene had “significant” but not life-threatening and was taken to the hospital.

Sherwin also said that police reports indicate the other two were more severely injured in the incident than the boy who remained on scene.

According to officials, the boy who was taken to the hospital by paramedics was released Wednesday.

Police are reportedly still investigating the incident.
