According to a police news release, after learning that a blow torch was being used to cut open a gun safe in a side yard of a residence, Riverside police arrested three men, recovered a hand grenade and 16 stolen guns, Tuesday.

The Press Enterprise reports at around 11:35 a.m., as officers were responding to the 4000 block of Sequoia Street. they pulled over a car that contained two of the men suspected of cutting the safe.

Police found the passenger of the vehicle had a gun in his pocket, and after searching the trunk they found nine more firearms and a hand grenade, which specialists determined was inert and not a threat.

Officers also found a backpack with six guns inside hidden in a trash can at the Sequoia Street residence. Police said two-gun safes were also found at the property.

Police believe the handguns and safes were stolen during a home burglary that happened hours before at another home in Riverside.

Police arrested three suspects including two transients, 30 year-old, Carlos Romero, and 45-year-old, Jesus Dominguez. They were arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property, conspiracy to commit a crime, and being felons in possession of handguns.
