Payment system complications were reported at some Starbucks stores nationwide Tuesday, prompting some stores to accept cash-only payments and others to give away free coffee.
According to CBS Los Angeles, reports of outages at multiple stores in Southern California, around the U.S. and even certain parts of Canada were posted on social media by Starbucks customers.
Long lines were spotted in Chicago at a Starbucks location that was giving away free coffee to people. Reportedly, because of the outage, there were stores that had to close completely and were handing out free drinks outside their stores.
It was confirmed to Reuters by a Starbucks spokesperson in Canada that “as a result of a system upgrade” some payment systems at a limited number of stores were offline.
