A bear that made its way onto the 210 Freeway in La Verne Monday morning will have to be euthanized after suffering multiple fractures.

CBS Los Angeles reports that according to the Inland Valley Humane Society, the injuries suffered by the bear after being struck by a vehicle around 7:40 a.m. Monday morning include multiple fractures and a dislocation. Officials said that as a result of such bad injuries, the bear can’t be returned back to the wild and sadly will have to be euthanized.

The driver in the crash wasn’t injured. After being struck, the 200-pound bear was later spotted on the westbound side 210 freeway at Foothill Boulevard limping in lanes.

California Department of Fish and Wildlife personnel arrived on scene and starting around 9:40 a.m. they used a tranquilizer gun on the bear twice.

After being shot with the tranquilizer, the bear ran off. But, the effects of the tranquiler began to take effect and around 10:30 a.m. it was safely taken safely into custody.
