Chicago’s hopes of a first-round upset over the Celtics have suffered a major blow.

The Bulls¬†announced Friday that point guard Rajon Rondo is out indefinitely after suffering a fractured right thumb during Tuesday’s Game 2. The injury will not require surgery.

This is devastating news for Chicago, which has seen its offense hit a new level with Rondo, Dwyane Wade and Jimmy Butler developing a newfound chemistry at the perfect time.

After averaging 7.8 points, 6.7 assists and 5.1 rebounds during the regular season, Rondo has upped his averages to 11.5 points, 10 assists and 8.5 rebounds in two postseason games. He has caused a problem for the Celtics by getting into the lane and either finding shooters or finishing himself.
