It happened a week ago at North Park Elementary School in San Bernardino, a 9-year-old boy was critically injured in classroom shooting that left his teacher and one of his fellow classmates dead.

CBS Los Angeles reports that on Friday, April 14th, Nolan Brandy was released after being treated for his injuries from Loma Linda University Medical Center.

It was last Monday that teacher Karen Smith was gunned down in her special-needs classroom by her estranged husband in what police have now called a murder-suicide.

After 53 year-old Cedric Anderson gained access to the school campus he entered his wife’s classroom and shot her dead. Sadly, there were also two students who were standing behind Smith at the time of the shooting and they were both also hit by gunfire. Eight-year-old Jonathan Martinez was killed, and 9 year-old Nolan Brandy was critically injured, but survived.

In an interview Friday morning, Nolan Brandy’s parent discussed the boys recovery. His mom Rachel told CNN, “Nolan, at this time, is doing fine, he’s recovering better than we expected.” “He’s moving right along with his recovery.”

Rachel Brandy said she regularly volunteered in her son’s class and that she knew both Karen Smith and Johnathan Martinez well.

“I’m trying to cope with that, but on the other hand, I’m very glad that my so has made it,” Brandy said. “So that makes it a little easier, knowing we can move forward with him.”

School resumed today, Monday, April 17th, and teachers and staff are all also trying to move forward. Reportedly the school has been increasing safety measures too by now restricting who will be able to gain access to the school campus, and they’ve even added cameras.

North Park Elementary will have additional staff and crisis counselors available to help students feel safe within the next week.
