It was scary incident last week as an elderly woman was carjacked as she sat in an idling vehicle outside the Rancho Cucamonga jail. She describes how she kept it cool and fought back against her carjacker.

99 year-old Virginia Bautista of Corona was understandably terrified about the ordeal and said, “She wouldn’t stop at the stops at all. She was speeding 80 to 90 miles an hour. What scared me was she almost hit a truck. ”

Last Thursday morning, Bautista was simply sitting in the passenger seat in a car waiting for her daughter to return when 24 year old Monique Cadena, who was newly released from the Rancho Cucamong, jail jumped in and stole the car driving her around the Inland Empire for about an hour and a half.

“So I said: ‘What are you doing?’ She says: ‘We are going to go for a ride. I say: ‘No I’ve got to wait for my daughter. If she comes out and doesn’t find the car, she’s going to be scared,’ ” Bautista recalled.

According to CBS Los Angeles, Elizabeth Mory, who is Bautista’s daughter said, “Along time ago, I told her if something happens like this, don’t scare because the heart will work against you.”

“She grabbed the jar, and she was going to hit me. I said: ‘Go ahead and hit me’,” the victim recalled.

Not only was there a lot of arguing in the vehicle between Bautista and her carjacker, there was also a fight over the victim’s purse.

“I said: ‘If you don’t leave that purse alone, I’m going to give it to you. I’m going to hit you’,” Baustista said to her kidnapper.

The elderly woman was eventually dropped off at a gas station.

The suspect was arrested later that day on suspicion of carjacking and kidnapping soon after the stolen car ran out of gas.
