Thanks to the Internet, kids have discovered what they believe is a simple solution to avoid going the the dentist.
They’re making their own braces.
Simple, yes. Idiotic, absolutely.
The young do-it yourselfers have created YouTube videos, demonstrating how they use rubber bands, dental floss, paper clips and even fishing line to supposedly straighten their teeth.
“Moving teeth is a complex biological process which involves: teeth, bone, muscle, soft tissue,” Orthodontist Dr. Jackie Miller told CBS St. Louis. “Someone could have issues beneath the surface like the bony areas, which are only detectable during a comprehensive and in-person exam by an orthodontist.”
If cost is what’s holding you or your child back, Miller says to consult your orthodontist about affordable options.
